The Spatio-temporal ARIA project (Integrating Spatio-Temporal Reasoning into Augmented Reality using AI) is an international project aimed at improving the environmental understanding of Augmented Reality (AR) systems. By integrating real-time room recognition capabilities, the project aims to give AR headsets a better understanding of indoor environments. This enhancement aims to provide better decision support in healthcare, industrial maintenance and education.
At the heart of this research is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) models capable of recognizing a large number of objects. These models, together with the system developed in the course of this research, will enable AR systems to analyze the environment more effectively, recognizing changes around the MR headset user to provide more accurate, context-appropriate assistance.
This initiative brings together researchers and industrial partners in France and Canada, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in the fields of object recognition, human-computer interaction (HCI) and Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL). The project not only advances the field of spatio-temporal reasoning, but also translates these advances into practical AR applications. Ultimately, this research paves the way for the next generation of intelligent AR systems that can seamlessly interact with the real world and provide users with contextual information in real time.
